As practitioners of the inner mystical dimension of Islam, Sufi Muslims believe in seeking spiritual masters to help “open their third eye to the spiritual path.”
Spiritual teacher Mubashir held a meditation in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. “God is light and that light is within us,” he explained. “People run to temples and synagogues but they are not finding peace. It’s all within.”
Sufi Muslims practice a form of mindfulness meditation involving deep breathing techniques and chanting rituals known as Zikr. Meditations begin with daily Islamic prayer, eventually progressing to chanting and deep breathing exercises.
